Rockin L installed insulation boards and SPF coating to my 1971 double-wide mobile home in October 2025.
I added a central air conditioner in the spring of 2023. Come summer the system would come on about 11am and run non-stop for 9 straight hours during the summer. I could have lived with that and the extra electricity bill but it wouldn’t maintain the temperature. While cooler than outside, the inside temperature would climb into the low 80’s. After the first summer I added a window unit hoping to help, which it did not, After two summers of this I decided to upgrade the roof.
September I discussed building a new roof with my roofer. He said he couldn’t do it because the walls of these older mobile homes wouldn’t handle the added weight and referred me to Neal.
Neal came by and looked it over, emailed an estimate, and when I said OK he said he’d try to get it done before the temperatures got too cold. October his company got it installed.
I didn’t notice a difference in heating over the winter probably due to it being a warm winter. But this summer! Without the window unit running the central air conditioner doesn’t start running until around 1pm and cycles off after 15-20 minutes. Then doesn’t come on again for about 30 minutes. A major improvement. And I’ve removed the window unit.
Neal stated the roof would also be stronger structurally. And with these pre housing standard homes that is a definite bonus. The interior is quieter without the roof flexing in high winds. But due to the poor original structure’s strength there was some interior ceiling damage from the workers walking all over the roof during installation. I could tell where they were working from the ceiling flexing. Nothing I couldn’t easily fix or live with but kind of inevitable due to that original structure. I did notice less movement of my ceiling when Neal was inspecting the finished job.
I definitely would recommend Neal, Rocking L and this roofing process for those with older mobile homes. Just, walk lightly gentlemen. 🙂
